MyHCC: What Is It?

The "wish list" from HCC visitors has grown steadily over the past few years, and it became apparent that a MyHCC feature would be an ideal way to satisfy several needs in one fell swoop. Here are a few new capabilities that are being offered now:

House Church Listings
From the outset there have been individuals who have wanted to maintain more than one house church listing. By moving the listing maintenance aspects of the HCC/HCDL directory into MyHCC, this became possible. Also, there have been significant expansions of the information in the directory, along with a solution to the problem of unscrupulous spammers who have occasionally been suspected of mining the HCC/HCDL directory as a source of e-mail addresses.
Church Starting
The HCC Cork Board has had frequent postings from individuals seeking contact with others within a geographic area in the hope of establishing a new House Church. MyHCC includes an optional church-starting register to allow registrants in the same geographical area to find each other in a more effective and private manner.
New House Church Announcements
To avoid cluttering the Cork Board with these announcements, a new page has been added exclusively for new church announcements. All new listings are posted there automatically.
Other Announcements--Yellow Pages
Again, the Cork Board often has announcements of house church conferences, the availability of products and services, and similar appeals to the broader house-church community. A new announcement service is now available through MyHCC. The listings appear in the new Yellow Pages section of the Resources division of House Church Central.

The above are just the initial features. New ones are in the works, and suggestions are always welcome.

Who Should Sign Up?

We feel that we can offer the best service to the house church community by asking you to participate only if your beliefs are compatible with the "Who Is HCDL?" statement (right) and if you can affirm these basic intentions regarding your fellowship practices:

  • You meet or intend to meet in a Christ-centered, relationally-based house church.
  • You look to the New Testament church as a pattern for your fellowship.
  • You are a nurturing community centered around mutual love, accountability and shared life.
  • You cultivate and give full expression to the priesthood of all believers under the sovereign headship of Christ.
  • You model Biblical stewardship, spending resources primarily on actual ministry and missions.
  • You view your fellowship as a corporate vessel through which the Lord Jesus may fully express His life and ministry of love, truth, healing, restoration, and reconciliation.
  • Your understanding of church is the fellowship of individuals, not the building in which they meet.
  • You do not regard the presence of an "ordained" individual as being essential for a full worship experience to take place.

Who is HCDL?

We are not a denomination, a federation, or a closed network. We come from all different religious backgrounds and are not connected by any organization or association. We do, however, hold to the major and essential tenets of the Christian faith, such as the Deity of Jesus Christ, His bodily resurrection, etc. In short, we are simply brothers and sisters in Christ who share a common vision regarding the local assembly. If you hold a different belief system, you probably won't find what you are looking for here (and, alternatively, the people who are participate here won't want to find you).

Use the form at the left to create your personal MyHCC Account. For your own privacy, choose a unique password and keep it written down in a safe place. Because passwords are encrypted before being stored, the only recovery from a lost password is to create a new one by convincing one of the volunteers at the Help Desk that you are who you say you are and to request that the password be replaced with a new one.

Privacy Issues: Striking a Balance

Embracing any part of technology to help the Christian community must be done carefully--especially in a place as public as the Internet. People who have taken the risk of listing their churches have occasionally been spammed with unwanted e-mail, for example. We think we now have a way to deal with such problems as these.

When you list a church in the Directory, all of your personal contact inforamtion, including your e-mail address, is kept private unless you deliberately include that information in the listing itself. When an individual finds your listing and wants to contact you, they do so on a reply form that sends that message to you from this server, without revealing your address to the respondent. When you receive such a reply, it is up to you to decide what to do next. You may choose to do nothing at all.

Similarly, if you wish to use MyHCC as an aid to locating like-minded believers in your area who might be willing to gather and start a new house church, your contact information is protected in exactly the same way. And signing up does not obligate you to be included in this feature at all--you may decide to subscribe or not to subscribe at any time by logging in and changing the appropriate option.
